wavWRLD's Weekly Wavs đđđ¶ Issue #25
Your Guide to the Best Emerging Artists & Songs in Music x New Internet
yerrrrrr and gm! Conference SZN 2023 is picking up and right off the bat we have the very event that kicked everything off for us last year, ETHDenver! Will you be in attendance? Weâre hearing words of Decks on the Desk, Kickbacks, UltraViolet Raves with our very own KarmaVioletta performing, and more ⊠but save your gas, because weâve still got SXSW, NFT LA, and NFT NYC coming up in the next few monthsâto say the least!
If youâre at ETHDenver, then join us at our wavWRLD meetup at Red Rocks on Saturday afternoon - March 4th! More details coming in next weekâs wavLETTER đ
But seriously, itâs difficult to overstate the importance of meeting up IRL to really get to know people in the web3 music community. IRL relationships brought wavWRLD together for one, and theyâve led to some of the coolest collaborations weâve seen so far in this space.
Did someone say collaborations? If youâre stuck online, have no fear. There are plenty of ways to stay engaged. As the weather warms up, look for activations or meetups in your cityâtraveling to a bunch of conferences is difficult to sustain, and if you can build a home base in your hometown, you stand to create much more of an impact. Shoutout to Rae Isla.
In the meantime, your friends at wavWRLD are in the kitchen cooking up some crazy things for you with the music and footage from our past events and wavROOMs. Weâre talking game mechanics, unique 1-of-1 experiences, and everything youâve hopefully come to expect from us.
Am I going to get in trouble for giving away too much alpha? Maybe, so if theyâve got someone else on this newsletter next time around, just know itâs been a pleasure âïž -Fred Riko
wavNEWS đ°
Remember Mint Songs? The semi-disgraced polygon-based music NFT marketplace for all has recently been acquired by peer-to-peer file sharing legend Napster. The first of a series of acquisitions by Napsterâs investing arm, Napster Ventures, this deal folds both Mint Songsâ strategy and its former team into Napsterâs broader web3 plans.
Napsterâs CEOâformer Roblox exec Jon Vlassopulosâhas stated that he plans to pivot the streaming service toward web3 technologies. Look to see how the Mint Songs brand and platform structure play a role in future Napster offerings: Vlassopulos has said that âartist collectiblesâ will be available on Napster within the coming months.
Allllrighty then, letâs slow down for a second here. We will be the first ones to say that while Mint Songs may have eventually failed both its team and community, it created a healthy social music-sharing ecosystem. While it turned out to be economically unsustainable, in many ways Mint Songs was the first victim of economic trends that have since crashed many more projects and communities.
What Mint Songs lacked in revenue, it made up for genuine creator utility. Current music NFT platformsâSound, Catalog, Zora, Decent, Beatsâhad the chance to learn from its failures and build more sustainable offerings. If we hate Mint Songs, itâs because we once loved Mint Songs. And its team and brand are still working toward the same goals from a year ago. Read more here.
The first song off of HIGH FREQUENCY Vol. 1, a compilation album curated by NOISE DAO, dropped on Wednesday on Sound.xyz. Consisting of 16 songs, the album features artists that NOISE believes represent the values of web3, have the potential to be breakout stars, and whose work can be considered an essential part of Music NFT canon. Look out for songs from our very own Karma.wav, Songcampâs Matthew Chaim, wavROOM artists Black Dave and Aly (fka Lackhoney), and more! Read more in NOISEâs mirror post.

More news:
Decent will leverage CharmVerseâs collaborative spaces to give artists better ways to engage their collectors post-mint.
Collectors on Sound.xyz can now download high-quality audio tracks (if the artist enables it).
Bello announces that theyâve been selected for the spring cohort of a16zâs Crypto Startup School and also releases new Collector Lists feature.

Earlier this week, analytics platform Bello hosted a twitter space that explored new tools for searching, filtering, and exporting collector analytics. Between integrations with Lens and general learning curves in data management for artists, this will be an increasingly important topic as we each garner more and more collectors. Listen back here.
Songcamp celebrated its 100th Heartbeat Call this past Monday by looking back at past accomplishments, walking through its upcoming roadmap, and of course sharing in new music from across the community. Itâs going to be a big year for this team so keep an eye outâstarting with Club Chaos at NFT NYC!

wavTIPs đĄ
What goes around comes around ⊠at this point we hope everyone in this space is building for the long-term because weâre not sure what short-term gains there are for the taking. This weekâs wavTIP is to be intentional about how you manage your relationshipsâboth logistically in how you keep track of information, but also emotionally.
The web3 space is small enough that itâs impractical to burn any bridges. Just look at the Mint Songs news: people switch projects, new technologies emerge, and things generally tend to shake up every now and again. Itâs short-sighted to think you can be rude or inappropriate without everyone rememberingâor without eventually needing something from someone you had previously written off. Be friendly when you can and gracious when you cannot, and we know you donât want to hear this from us, but stay out of the drama! Fergie already told you that you donât want no drama.
So donât pull on my hand, boyâjust play it cool and take advantage of all the future opportunities that come to you.
