wavWRLD's Weekly Wavs 🌊🌐🎶 Issue #26 - ETHDenver Recap
Your Guide to the Best Emerging Artists & Songs in Music x New Internet
gee emmmmmm! Everyone’s back, everyone’s tired, everyone’s sick—that’s this week’s headline…
NOT! Hype in the space is at turbo levels when out of nowhere every Hawd Hitta in the music NFT community (including wavROOM artists Jadyn Violet, TK, Cam Murdoch, KarmaVioletta, Aly fka Lackhoney & Fred Riko) stepped up with a submission to the Reveel x Decent collab competition. Votes are still live, so get your mints in while you can—and please direct any suspected instances of fufu tactics or gamesmanship to one Sir Lenny. If you see something, say something, people. Just kidding. No snitching.
But of course the big story is ETHDenver 2023 last week, and whether you were lucky enough to attend or sat this one out on the sidelines, we’ve got the wavRECAP for y’all straight from our on-the-ground team.
House Party!
Web3 music Queen Nik Bean set off the vibes with her Decks on the Desk party! Nikki brought together (curated?) a close circle of people who are at the core of the music NFT community. We saw Sir Lenny cheffing it up in the kitchen and Nick Merich manning the grill as homies relaxed, mingled, and enjoyed a little community time before the conference really picked up steam. Jeremy + Dadabots + Jake Abel made it extra vibey by hopping on the decks and spinning some fire tunes. We all love to go out and hit the club or the bars, but there’s truly nothing like a backyard bbq + house party.
Underground Violet Rave
At this point a mainstay of crypto conferences, Jadyn Violet delivered his 5th ever Underground Violet Rave and it did not disappoint. Partnering with orgs like Future Surf, Reveel, Decent, Oohlala and Hitpiece, with panels featuring web3 music leaders, the UVR is special for the unique community Jadyn has built with his daily spaces and Orb collects. That community showed up, and it was a ton of fun to connect with people we’ve only known as PFPs in Twitter spaces. There were some epic performances too, by some of web3’s finest—Domino, HENO., KarmaVioletta, Jadyn Violet, brace, Gx, Muta, and Babyoil—with special appearances by Scolla, Miles Ryan Harris and Jamee Cornelia.
Music NFT Kickback
Immaculately curated by Coopahtroopa, Saturday’s event brought together the vibe + the venue + the people + the music that were all absolutely top notch. This party had the floor shaking and the mirrors wobbling! There are so many different dynamics of the web3 music space—which is one of the reasons why it’s such a great space to be a part of. The lineup included some web3 legends—Clear eyes, Bloody White, Daniel Allan, dot, and Eva Myra May. Not much more to be said here—this kickback was executed to perfection.
wavWRLD Field Trip
Again, we love the bright lights and the party, but wavWRLD started as a like-minded community. We brought the whole crew together once again for a trip out to Red Rocks to vibe and immerse ourselves in the Colorado wavs. Waves aren’t just around the ocean folks, they’re everywhere—and what an opportunity on the 1 year anniversary of wavWRLD coming together IRL to celebrate the connections and success we’ve built over the past 12+ months. wavWRLD crew decked out in Lens merch at Red Rocks! 👇

AnotherBlock x Spinamp
Another incredible community event, where we played some of our very own artists in attendance’s tunes—KarmaVioletta, TAROT, Karma.wav, AL3C—straight from the Spinamp app at the party!!

wavNEWS 📰
Oohlala now offers direct minting from Manifold. While web3 music centers around platforms like Sound, Catalog & Decent, it’s important for artists to understand they can leverage platforms like Manifold to maintain a larger element of control over their releases. It is equally as important for us to offer independent drops the same access to curation channels as the larger platforms have. They make an important point with their Lens post as well—these Manifold drops are rarer and tougher to pull off than a drop on a platform.
Well-earned kudos here. You remember a few months back when we were giving them a hard time? They took our feedback and have shown up to build every day with the best of us. It goes to show that you shouldn’t burn bridges, even digital ones. Keep up the good work, Oohlala.
Invest in Music is a new media outlet formed by Coopahtroopa as an evolution of his weekly email newsletter. Supported by NFT Now and initially sponsored by Sound, Invest in Music is aimed at elevating the stories of artists and curators in the music NFT space, with the intent of onboarding new fans and collectors to the subculture.
If you follow Coop, the vision here is consistent with what he has been saying for a while; the interesting part is seeing the actual mechanisms through which he’s working to bring that vision about. Coop Records, Invest in Music—keep your eyes peeled here folks.
Dreams Never Die launches founders pass NFT. The team behind HillyDilly, the music blog that discovered Lorde and Billie Eilish, is offering the first official entry point into the Dreams Never Die ecosystem. Join a community looking to find and foster web3 music talent, and keep an eye out for their upcoming activation at NFT NYC.
In industry news, Coinbase has announced Base: an open-source Etherium L2 platform aimed at making it easy for anyone to build decentralized applications. Base’s goals are lofty: to onboard 1B+ users into the crypto economy. With Coinbase as one of the strongest on chain brands among mainstream audiences, it’s a reasonable bet to think they can succeed here at a faster rate than their competitors.
While this playbook may not be entirely revolutionary, Coinbase has a unique position as a publicly traded company and global brand—we still may not know exactly what will lead to mainstream adoption, but Coinbase has adopted a similar playbook to Meta, Sound.xyz, and other market leaders: execute on the best ideas better than anyone else can. So far, it’s been a winning strategy.

wavTIPs 💡
It’s going to be a long year folks. That can be a good or bad thing depending on your perspective, but the onus is on each of us to preserve our energy and resources. Money isn’t flowing right now the way it was this time last year—things that felt possible 12 months ago now seem unthinkable. And the toughest part is that there’s no end in sight.
That knife cuts both ways, though. If you can turn your attention away from finances and focus on quality concrete outputs, you’ll find yourself with a much stronger foundation when it’s time to cash out. It’s the same advice we’ve been giving for nearly a year but the context around us is constantly changing. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this crypto winter won’t be over any time soon.
