wavWRLD's Weekly Wavs 🌊🌐🎶 Issue #30 - Don't Miss These NFT NYC Events!!
Your Guide to the Best Emerging Artists & Songs in Music x New Internet
No two ways about it, 2023 is well underway. No more pretending the year just started, we are on into April folks! What a great time to look back at your New Year’s resolutions and check in with yourself about how you’re doing on that list …
What’s that? You’ve gone full degen mode and just want the alpha? Fine!
This is the last time you’ll hear from wavWRLD before we all descend upon the greatest city in the world for what feels like the crown jewel of this current conference season: NFT NYC.
Pick a reason, but everyone brings their A game to New York—You already know that last year’s NFT NYC played host to the first wavROOM experience, brought to you IRL at the DL in Manhattan’s Lower East Side and URL in partnership with Glass.xyz (btw you alpha heads, this won’t be the last time you’ll be hearing about Glass in April … shhhhhh).
Now, I’m no FUD-y duddy, but if you’ll remember from a few weeks ago Sir Lenny (join his fan club) brought us the sad news that SXSW featured all the AI hype and not too much about NFTs … it will be interesting to see what this looks like in New York. Will it be an even smaller subculture of web3 music homies just having a time to themselves, or will this be a chance to directly onboard newbies at scale a la Sammy Arriaga?
No matter who pulls up to NYC you know we’ll be bringing the 🌊🌊🌊. We’ve got you covered below as to the major goings on, including 2 performances from our very own KarmaVioletta and events curated by web3’s omnipresent goddess, Jade. So, straight from your friends at wavWRLD, here are the WAVIEST things happening this week:
April 11
KarmaVioletta are playing a vibey set from 8-10pm at Pulsr’s SUBJECTIVE Collective NFT NYC Kickoff Party. Join us for a night filled with art, music, drinks, and connecting with fellow artists and enthusiasts. The Immersive room will be activated in partnership with TokenTraxx, Visual Conductor, Space Runners, with Live music curation by Collabaret & wavWRLD. The Basement studio will be co-created by AOI and Pulsr.ai to bring together some of the top creative talent in digital art. RSVP here! 8pm-12am.
Kits, Showtime, and HiFi Labs have partnered to bring us EQUALIZE NFT NYC, featuring BRUX, Dot, Mija & corinne. Head to Nublu for this event, intended to promote gender diversity in the predominantly male-dominated web3 space and elevate non-male artists who are essential to the foundation of our vibrant ecosystem. RSVP via Partiful! 8pm-2am.
Don’t miss the 3rd Annual MUSIC NFT MOVEMENT during NFT NYC, co-hosted by CoopahTroopa and BlockchainBrett!! They’ve got an amazing lineup, including Daniel Allan, Clear eyes and Dot (2 gigs in 1 night?!)... RSVP via Partiful! 9pm-12am.
April 12
Head into the Georgia Room in Manhattan for the Dreams Never Die Showcase! Coming on the heels of DND’s wildly successful Founder Pass release, this showcase is sure to be next level. RSVP via Partiful. 7pm-11pm (low ticket warning). P.S. If you did cop a Founder Pass, then don’t miss the Founder Dinner prior to the Showcase!! 5-7pm. RSVP to both here.
Join friends of wavWRLD Songcamp and Catalog for a two-night extravaganza showcasing top web3 artists from both communities! On Wednesday, head to Public Records in Brooklyn for Club Chaos, featuring a CHAOS set from KarmaVioletta, Dot, Pozibelle and Rowan Spencer. Tickets on Eventbrite. 9pm-1am.
April 13
Join the wavWRLD squad for a vibey wavMEETUP at Central Park!! We’re hosting a low-key kickback to touch grass and immerse ourselves in nature. Check our Twitter or join our Telegram chat for more info!
Williamsburg is the spot for Catalog’s Convergence—the sister event to Club Chaos—featuring HEDS (Sober Rob + Deffie + Oshi), QRTR, BRUX, and Athena Yasaman. Get your tickets on Eventbrite. 8pm-12am.
The Underground Violet Rave will be raging in Brooklyn with a secret show, featuring B2B DJs Muta and BabyOil and a performance is likely from the UVR King himself, Jadyn Violet. No RSVP link here, because well, it’s a secret ;) 11pm-3am.
April 14
Descend on Arlene’s Grocery on Friday night for “Voyage to the Stars”, brought to you by Jack Frost, Dave aka Sayten, and DFreshmaker. Featuring a stacked lineup of artists, including Jadyn Violet, Yunice, and of course Jack himself, the event is token-gated, so only collectors of the artists’ NFTs can get in. It’s a great idea, if you ask us! Especially if you remember wavWRLD’s token-gated wavROOM experience from the last NFT NYC ;) Tickets on Eventbrite! 7-11pm.

wavNEWS 📰
Hot! off the press we have Billboard’s NFT charts for this past March. According to the magazine, last month was a slower one for music NFTs, especially as crypto was a pumpin’—if coin prices are up, people are more inclined to keep their money there than in NFTs.
That being said, some of our favorite independent artists and projects found their way on the charts, including Dreams Never Die’s Founder Pass, Violetta Zironi’s Another Life, and Reo Cragun’s Spent—which leveraged the new Sound Swap feature from Sound.xyz. Major kudos to these artists for leading the way and showing us what’s possible, and it’s nice that Billboard is giving our subculture some recognition here.

OpenSea has rebranded their Gem V2 marketplace to OpenSea Pro: billed the fastest and most powerful NFT aggregator to date. According to OpenSea, this new platform boasts special features such as “Live Cross-Marketplace Data, Advanced Orders, Powerful Inventory Management, etc.” Woohoohoo!
Music NFTs don’t necessarily trade at a volume for which this piece of news currently applies to us, but it’s not unthinkable that we’d get to that point before too long. With projects like Another Life or Sammy Arriaga’s Metagirl, music NFTs are slowly gaining notoriety for all the reasons we’ve been talking about for a year plus. One day we too will be Pros.
-
Decent has released a new dashboard for artists to manage all of their Decent-powered contracts in one place. Check it out.

Riff is the new Beats! The newly-rebranded Lens-based platform continues to build, most recently announcing Riff Charts for recent releases.

wavTIPs 💡
I hate to bring it back up, but I was being genuinely serious about checking in on those resolutions. It’s the news that nobody wants to hear: if you can set up a system of goals and accountability for yourself, you’re miles ahead of the game.
The opportunities yielded by this bear market are going to come to fruition years down the road, as a result of continued, disciplined work with the long-term in mind. It’s a stark contrast from the post-pandemic lives we’ve been living, with shortened attention spans, cheap money, and a 24/7 news cycle. It’s up to you to be persistent and focused.
Hey–I know I’m heavy on the cliche today, but some of these fundamentals we seem to have forgotten. We don’t have to overcomplicate things—let’s build something cool here folks.
